Since the rise in petroleum products we have incurred many price increases in both wax and shipping so I would like to thank all of our customers for their continued support. Thank you and we hope to process an order for you soon!!! Jackie 1 – Never leave a burning candle unattended. This first point should be fairly self-explanatory but let’s think about it. You wouldn’t go off to a movie and leave your stove top on High, so why should you leave the house with an actual flame burning? Most of us will leave the room occasionally to start a load of laundry or use the restroom but don’t leave an open flame to burn while you go to bed or to the grocery store. 2 – Keep wick trimmed to between 1/8th and ¼ inch to prevent smoking and soot buildup. The length of the wick plays an important role in how your candle behaves. The longer the wick, the greater the air-to-fuel ratio will get, which leads to incomplete combustion of the fuel – which turns into excess smoke and soot for you. 3 - Burn candle on protected surface, free from flammable materials & drafts. Obviously you don’t want to have an open flame near something flammable that could catch and spread the fire – drapery, clothing, rubbing alcohol in your bathroom, etc. Drafts blowing on to the flame will create smoke and soot (see #2) because excess air is interfering with the flame. Drafts can also cause the flame to burn higher and brighter than intended, leading to more heat and the possibility of igniting materials that may be too close by, and breaking the holder. 4 - Extinguish flame before replacing lid. Some lids have plastic fittings or coatings that could be damaged, catch fire, and produce chemicals that you don’t want floating around in the air. Plus, having unsightly scorch marks inside the lid is just unpleasant looking. 5 - To protect surfaces, do not allow candle to burn less than 1/2 inch from the bottom of the jar unless placed on a heavy coaster or trivet. Have you ever left a cold beverage on a nice wooden table and forgot about it? Hate that nasty ring that gets left in the finish? A hot candle will make a ring in a wood finish that you can’t get rid of with some elbow grease and furniture polish. 6 - Do not move the jar while burning or after extinguishing until wax solidifies. Melted wax is hot. If you pick up the jar while it’s burning, you could stumble or trip and send hot wax flying everywhere. This could hurt you or someone else, as well as damage something that the wax might land on. 7 - Keep out of reach of children and pets. Whether the candle is burning or not, keep it away from children and pets. If the candle is burning, this is fairly obvious – children shouldn’t be handling an open flame. Pets can knock the candle over or brush by the flame, singeing the tail and catch fire to themselves or the curtains, etc. But even if it isn’t burning, the fragrance of a candle, particularly if it is a food-oriented scent, could entice a child to attempt to eat the wax. Candle wax, colorants, and fragrance oils are not meant to be ingested by anyone, much less children. |
